Day 3

Forty Days of Prayer for Our Country- Day 3

Scripture:
In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness.  We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.  Romans 8:26

Thought for the day:
"The battle of prayer is against two things - wandering thoughts and lack of intimacy with God's character as revealed in his Word.  Neither can be cured at once, but both can be cured by discipline."  Oswald Chambers

Do you thoughts wander in prayer?  Do you ever have difficulty connecting with God in prayer?  If you are honest the answer is yes to both.  Pray today knowing that God's Holy Spirit wants to help you with both.  Go back to Romans 8:26, read it slowly knowing it was written with you in mind and let God lead you today.

Prayer:
Father, help me in my wandering thoughts in prayer to be drawn back to you.  Get me off of any "agenda" I have in prayer except for your agenda for me, for your church and  for my country.  Teach me to pray as your Spirit leads me over these 40 days...

Prayer Points for Today:
- Pray that we stay focused in prayer throughout this effort.
- Pray that we would sense and follow the Holy Spirit's guidance for each of us and not just read words on a screen.
- Pray that we would follow God's guidance in this process.

Memory Verse for the Week:
"If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all."  Isaiah 7:9

Challenge for the Week - Voter Registration
The last day to register to vote for the November 6 election is October 9.  Do you know someone who is eligible but might not be registered to vote?  A child who is at least 18 by election day?  A grandchild?  A student who is away at college?  A new neighbor?  Ask, encourage, and equip them.  We have a few voter registration cards in the church office.
