Day 2

Forty Days of Prayer for Our Country- Day 2

Scripture:
"This is the confidence we have in approaching God; that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.  And if we know that he hears us - whatever we ask -  we know that we have what we asked of him."  1 John 5:14-15

Thought for the day:

"Prayer is not overcoming God's reluctance but laying hold of his willingness."  Martin Luther

Can our small prayers here really make a difference in our country with all it's big problems?  Is this really doing any good?

You may face those questions in this task of praying for our country, perhaps as a wondering thought in a time of prayer.  The time to answer those questions is now, in faith on the promise of God.  John wanted those few Christians of his day to know that they could impact the entire Roman empire because they petitioned not the thrown of Rome but the throne of heaven.  So do we.

Prayer Points for Today:
- Pray that we as a church and you as an individual, would grow in faith today and in the days to come.
- Pray that we would believe in the power of prayer before a willing God.
- Pray that we would overcome our doubts about our prayers and see their true power.
- Pray that each candidate may clearly and honestly share his positions on the issues in the upcoming Presidential debate
and that voters would be able to discern what is being said.

Prayer,
Father God, help us to pray believing that you hear us and believing that you are a God who responds to the prayers of your people, no matter how great our problems maybe, they are not too great for you.

Memory Verse for the Week:
"If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all."  Isaiah 7:9

Challenge for the Week - Voter Registration
The last day to register to vote for the November 6 election is October 9.  Do you know someone who is eligible but might not be registered to vote?  A child who is at least 18 by election day?  A grandchild?  A student who is away at college?  A new neighbor?  Ask, encourage, and equip them.  We have a few voter registration cards in the church office.
