Day 50
So I
confronted the officials and said, “Why is the house of God forsaken?” And I
gathered them together and set them in their stations.
Nehemiah
13:11
Have
you ever suffered from decision making fatigue? There are times that one
decision comes after another decision after another decision. Over time, we
simply get weary of making decisions and solving problems. During these times,
it is easy to give up and let the situation take over.
Nehemiah
was faced with this very thing. He has lead the people of Jerusalem through a
number of challenges to this point. He has coordinated projects, resolved
problems, and dealt with problem people. At some point, it seems the people
would begin to get it and show some interest and take responsibility. However,
they continue to do things their way, ignoring the plan of God.
After
all that he has done, Nehemiah once again finds himself dealing with issues
that should not exists. Because Eliashib turned the store room into an
apartment, there has been no place to keep the tithes of grain, wine, and oil.
In fact, the people have stopped bringing the tithes all together. As a result,
the Levites and singers and fled the temple and returned to the fields. So,
Nehemiah calls those responsible to account.
You
might ask yourself, “How does Nehemiah continue to keep his focus and press
forward?” I would suggest that it is the God given vision he has that drives
him to keep pressing on. He knows what God has called him to do and he keeps
that front and center. When he feels like giving up, the vision pushes him
forward.
How
about you? Do you have a God given vision for your life? Is this God given
vision enough to push you through difficult times? Finding God’s plan and direction
for your life will bring clarity in the midst of confusion. This vision will help
you press on when nothing else will.
