Nehemiah
3:8-11
There
are times that God will put a project before us that is bigger than we alone
can handle. In fact, there are times that God will put something before us that
is so big that it will require everyone – regardless of background, position,
or gender – to rise up and take part. This is exactly what we see in the book
of Nehemiah.
What
you see above is a small sampling of those who were engaged in the building of
the wall around Jerusalem. All of chapter three is a delineation of who did
what and where. People in high positions built. People in low positions built.
There were craftsmen, rulers, leaders, sons, daughters, rich and poor – all of
whom took part in the building of the wall.
As
we consider the needs that are present around us, we will soon come to the conclusion
that many of them will only be met and we come together. Much of what needs to
happen in our communities and in our churches will require that a number of
believers to come together to pray, plan, and act. While some things can be
handled by an individual, this usually is not the case.
Two
things for us to consider today: Is there some area in my church or community
that I need to engage in? Is there some work that I can be a part of that will
help move us forward? Second, is there some area that I need to step up and
take the lead in order to meet a need? Many times, once someone takes the
initial lead, others will follow.
